CARBON COUNTY, Wyo., May 6, 2024 – Construction work is underway for 2024 on the TransWest Express Transmission Project.
Project construction commenced on Sept. 19, 2023, and TransWest Express LLC continues to move the project forward each season with careful planning. The 2024 TWE Project construction scope kicked off May 1 and focuses on civil construction of the northern terminal site and the adjacent Ferris substation site. Preparation of this approximately 100-acre area south of Rawlins is critical to the timely completion of the overall TWE Project. This location will host the HVDC terminal designed with selected technology partner Siemens Energy.
Heavy equipment rolled out to begin preparing the site of the TWE Project’s northern terminal. International Union of Operating Engineers members are partners in TWE Project construction.
The TWE Project is co-located with Wyoming’s main transport corridor featuring existing high-voltage transmission, the Union Pacific railroad, Interstate 80, and multiple fiber lines and pipelines.
When energized in 2029, the high-voltage, interregional TWE Project will provide important new bulk transmission capacity and will connect three planning regions in the West: WestConnect, NorthernGrid and the California Independent System Operator. The TWE Project also will provide the West with new access to wind-generated electricity from Carbon County, home of America’s best onshore wind resources.
